  • Required recycling services at large public events in Maryland
  • Imposed points on the driving records of people convicted of illegal dumping in Maryland
  • Banned plastic microbeads in personal care products in Maryland.
  • Banned polystyrene foam food packaging in DC, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, and Baltimore City
  • Helped Maryland become the first state to ban expanded polystyrene in 2019 - a model for the nation.
  • Banned plastic bags in Takoma Park and Baltimore City, followed by additional plastic bag ban and fee policies in 16 local jurisdictions across the state.
  • A plastic bag ban passed in the Maryland House of Delegates and stalled in the Senate in both 2020 and 2021. Let's get it passed!
  • Passed the first step toward extended producer responsibility for packaging in Maryland (2023), establishing a Packaging Advisory Council and Recycling Needs Assessment.
  • Passed extended producer responsibility for packaging and paper products ("EPR for Packaging") in Maryland in 2025 with language ensuring the program would harmonize with a possible future bottle bill.
  • Passed a requirement for refillable water stations to be installed in new construction and certain renovations where code also requires a drinking fountain, making it easier to reuse and refill!
  • Leading a year-round coalition of anti-litter and watershed protection groups to support a statewide bottle bill, or deposit-refund system for beverage containers, which successfully passed out of its House committee in 2025.
